Aging Equipment, Increased Equipment Costs To Be Discussed
At FACTS Meeting
ST. LOUIS, MO.
June 10, 2004 – Just like
cars, fire trucks and ambulances have to be replaced and repaired over
time. The costs associated with this replacement are a daily struggle for
many Fire Districts, including Mehlville's. With aging equipment and
increasing demand, the Mehlville Fire Protection District is turning to
its community for answers.
Community members
will have a chance to voice their opinions on the District's equipment at
the second FACTS (Fire District Advisory Committee For Tomorrow's
Emergency Services) meeting.
Everyone in the
community is invited to participate. The second FACTS meeting is
Wednesday, June 16 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Engine Room at the Mehlville
Fire Protection Headquarters, 11020 Mueller Rd. At the end of the meeting
participants will have the opportunity to view a mock rescue, performed by
members of the Mehlville Fire Protection District.
Community Co-Chairs Gail Chatfield, Bill Cocos, Judy
Wideman and Dave Sinclair will moderate the FACTS Meeting on June 16.
Steve Mossotti, Deputy Chief, will present information about the Fire
District's equipment replacement schedule, the current state of equipment
and the costs associated with replacement. Following Mossotti's
presentation participants will work in small groups on an
equipment-related activity.
FACTS
will involve citizens in
developing recommendations that, upon implementation, will provide better
emergency solutions for the entire community. The group will meet two to
three times a month until August to study key issues, define the
District’s needs and reach consensus on potential solutions. The
recommendations, for consideration by the Board, will follow a study of
the District's finances, equipment, staffing, facilities and other topics
decided by participants.
The entire community
has been invited to participate in the process. Anyone interested in
participating is encouraged to register by calling 314.894.0420 ext. 1716
or e-mailing facts@mehlvillefire.gen.mo.us. The FACTS community chairs
will present recommendations to the Board by mid-August.
